Beyond Design was contacted by Zero Friction to design a golf bag that incorporated retractable wheels. This feature would enable users to either carry amplify the Zero Friction brand with new innovative golf products. The new product revolved around making the experience of carrying golf clubs more conveinet. The new product needed to have retractable wheels, weatherproof material, a light-weight design, and an ergonomic handle. All the design aesthetics aligned with the existing Zero Friction Visual Brand Language (VBL).

The design team further developed the selected design based on discussions with the client at the conclusion of the prior phase. Mechanical development focused on the retractable wheels and overall configuration of the Zero Friction golf bag. Mechanical features were reviewed to ensure functionality, including wheel placement, size, and maneuverability. Additional must-have and need-to-have features outlined in the preceding phase were noted in the sketches. As product engineering and functionality were refined, the design team embellished features to meet overall product expectations. Suggested materials and assembly methods for component parts were outlined in the sketches. Rapid prototype models were developed for the wheel assembly to further study the mechanical operation, proposed wheel size, and ergonomic functionality.
